Is this not just the premiere, but also the finale?

Perhaps, then, the burning question will be whether or not I’ll tend to this blog for long.

So while I’m still here — and not just using this as a base of operations for posting on Joe Mallozzi’s page — I might as well do something cliche, like share a few things about myself. On second thought, maybe I won’t. Wow, I’m second-guessing an introduction. I don’t expect this place to remain here long at all.

Backtrack a bit, then. Maybe I needn’t be so hasty. Maybe I will post a few things about myself after all. How shall I go about doing this? There are always methods to one’s madness, and I could show some nerd cred by writing myself up a neat little biography in roleplay-esque format. But I’m not going to do that, because it’s so jovial my head would spin. Screw it, here are a couple of things and then I’m done with this part:

A.) I’m 22. Born in 1987, which I’m proud of for being the year Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda and Metal Gear all planted their roots. I’m not proud of the fact that, apparently, so did Abercrombie.

B.) By virtue of reading the above, you might already know this, but I’m a gamer. In addition to the three series I already covered, I’m a fan of Mario, Pokémon and a whole lot more where that came from.

C.) By virtue of starting a blog to begin with, you might already know this, but I’m a writer. I haven’t written actively in over two years now, and that’s a damn shame. I hope to correct this somewhat via this blog, but more on that later.

D.) By virtue of listing things by letter, you might already know this, but I’m scatterbrained enough to be OCD enough to write things in this method.

E.) Enough of that. I’m somewhat heavily involved in ‘genre’ television and movies. That’s a really stupid term and I kind of hate myself for taking to it, all things considered. What it means for those either not in-the-know about it or angry with me for using it in the first place is sci-fi/fantasy. That said, I’m all about characterization, so any good drama might be my cup of tea. There’s something about the ‘what-ifs’ of the universe that really get my brain going, though, and I attribute that in no small part to my late grandmother and her obsessions with such things as Star Trek: The Next Generation and Babylon 5 when I was but a wee tike. Growing up, I found my calling in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Farscape, Firefly, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica and most recently Stargate Universe. On the movie front, I’ve always had an acquired taste for all things Trek, its timeless rival Star Wars to a point, and then a bunch of other things. Books are too many to list in this growing-lengthy paragraph, but Tad Williams’ Otherland is my most recent obsession.

You know, that was a grotesquely-long enough letter to warrant serious consideration of stopping with the whole letter thing. At any rate, enough about me. Actually, scratch that — one more thing about me. This initial entry wouldn’t be complete without a few shout-outs, or rather, two shout-outs.

Jacqueline: I hate this term too, but you really are my ‘better half’. Coming up on one year now since I popped the question (let’s engage in a relationship together, not let’s get married, that is) from a playground swing in rural Idaho while you were still shacking it up with your ex in ever-rural Alaska, and I haven’t felt the slightest hint of regret. Thank you for everything you do, everyday, etc.

Griff: If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be doing this. I’ve made this blog in part with the eventual intention of partnering with you on entertainment reviews and the like. I need a webcam and, while we’re at it, a much better computer and internet connection, so it will be at least a few months down the road. Alas, I can’t wait.

Ahem. Last but not least, the majority of the reason behind the creation of this blog. Besides eventually doing things with Griff, I also figured I might be more tempted to write if I had somewhere with easy access to post it all. Short stories. Long stories. Stories too long for me to ever finish and yet a decade after the initial concept, here I am still trying to figure them out. (I’m looking at you, ‘Outsider’.) Thoughts on life, the universe and everything. Episodic Stargate Universe reviews. Everything I can possibly cook up, assuming of course I manage to break out of the belief that I’ll never get around to any of this in the first place. We’ll see.

I can’t think of much else to say. If I keep going, I’ll be reaching. There’s no need to artificially extend the length of one’s posts. I’ve said all that needs to be said here. See you around.

Maybe.
